Don’t miss the CanWest Hort Show
The CanWest Horticulture Show is the biggest trade show in the province and well-worth attending. It’s happening over two days on September 26 and 27, 2018, at the Tradex in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
As a landscape professional I love attending this event. Every year I attend the full-day Urban Foresters Symposium which will feature four lectures this year. I get great education, CEUs towards ISA re-certification and I get to mingle with green industry professionals over lunch. Last year, one attendee standing behind me in the lunch line-up recognized my name and mentioned how much he enjoyed reading my blogs! Brilliant.
The one trade show booth I never miss is the plant ID booth. Grab a clipboard and check out the live specimens on display. Then correctly identify them for a chance to win prizes. I’m hoping to make it three 100% scores in a row this year. And I also bring extra copies for my co-workers.
And of course, the whole event is great for blog post ideas. So if you miss the show this year, I will fill you in.
The best booth!
Of course, booth 733 is Foreshore Equipment and Supply’s booth so please stop by to see us. Talk to us about your needs and see how we can solve your problems.
I still remember Dana, Foreshore’s mechanic guru, showing me the difference between regular and Aspen gas by dropping an object into each of two beakers. The regular gasoline erased the floating object like acid thereby clearly showing how much gentler the Aspen fuel was.
Before I walked away, I stuffed my pockets full of free Stihl candy.
Trade show fun
There is a lot to do at the show. You can attend many short seminars on various topics and walk the trade show floor to see what’s new and for sale. I especially like the nursery booths with their plant displays. It’s like bonus plant ID work. I take pictures with my smartphone and steal as many plant tags as I can.
You can also attend equipment demonstrations outside. And if you get hungry, there are food trucks outside and concession inside. Bring lots of cash. I find the food prices a bit high.
Since I drive a company vehicle I normally ignore the beer garden but you’re welcome to stop there and relax.
And if you need a job, there is usually a full job board so make some connections.
Don’t miss the CanWest Hort Show this year and stop by our booth 733. We’d love to talk to you.
